High school district board to discuss security
The Yuma Union High School District governing board will consider several items on the upcoming 2018-2019 school year at its meeting Wednesday.
The district’s governing body will convene at 5:15 p.m. at the Yuma High School library, 400 S. 6th Ave., for its monthly business meeting.
Superintendent Gina Thompson will update the board on safety and security after a perceived social media threat forced the closure of Gila Ridge High School on Feb. 27.
The board may approve an agreement with the City of San Luis for a school resource officer for San Luis High School. The board may also OK course descriptions and course fees for the coming year. A proposed change in athletic fees will be presented during the meeting, but the board will not vote on that item.
The board may approve the 20182019 open enrollment capacity; that year’s Parent/Student handbook; and a utility easement for Arizona Public Service. The board may also adopt a policy on using technology resources in instruction.
The financial department will present the Auditor General’s Dollars in the Classroom report, as well as update the board on the district’s budget. Facilities will present information on district bond projects, including work at the new Vista High School and District Administrative Offices on Avenue A. A “topping” ceremony is set for noon Thursday to lay the final brick in the building. Vista Alternative High School Laura Campbell will also address the board.
Guidance counselor Ginny Legros and Lili Campa will present on the Yellow Ribbon project, a teen suicide prevention effort.
A study session is to be set for either March 21 or March 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. The board’s next meeting will be at 5:15 April 12 in the cafeteria of Yuma High.
The board’s meetings are open to the public with the exception of executive sessions.
Information on agenda items are available for public inspection at the offices of the superintendent, which are currently on the premises of Yuma High School.
