A weekly list of city projects or encroachme­nt permits authorized by the City of Yuma affecting busy streets.

Spring Slurry Seal Project (Mar. 22-Apr. 8)

The City of Yuma Public Works Department will apply a “slurry seal” to extend the life of pavement in area streets starting Mar. 22 through Apr. 8, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The Spring ‘18 Slurry Seal project will include the following streets:

• 12th Street, Avenue C to Avenue B (Mar. 22-28)

• 8th Street, Avenue A to 1st Avenue (Mar. 24-25)

• 24th Avenue, 6th Street to 8th Street (Mar. 24)

• Avenue B, 16th Street to 8th Place (Mar. 30 - Apr. 8)

• Avenue C, 16th Street to 12th Street (Mar. 30 - Apr. 8)

• Avenue C, Daisy Street to 11th Street (Mar. 30 - Apr. 8)

• Arizona Avenue, 16th Street to 12th Street (Mar. 24)

• Yowell Street, from its east end to Avenue B (Mar. 23)

The Spring ‘18 Slurry Seal project will include the following subdivisio­ns:

• Thomas White subdivisio­n (Mar. 22-29)

• Los Altos subdivisio­n (Mar. 22-29)

• Santa Maria subdivisio­n (Mar. 22-29) • Valle Sereno subdivisio­n (TBD) • Hillside Manor (Mar. 22-29) • Galahad Manor (Mar. 27-28) • Hazelwood subdivisio­n (TBD) A 24-hour advance notice will be passed out by the contractor prior to working on your street. Streets will reopen the same day by 5 p.m. Please pass this informatio­n to all concerned parties and for any questions or concerns, please call (928) 373-4500.

Kofa High School Access Street

On Monday, Mar. 19, crews will be digging into the access street to Kofa High School, off of Avenue A. The gates to Kofa High School on that access street will be closed from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. for one day only. The project will replace two manholes. Additional­ly, there may be some traffic impacts to the walking path at Kofa High School.

Frontage Rd., Avenue 9E to Mesa Avenue

Crews will be working on south Frontage Road between Avenue 9E and Mesa Avenue starting Wednesday, Mar. 21, through Thursday, Mar. 22, to replace a main line in the area. The work will require a road closure and reduced lanes while crews are in the area. Signs will be posted to alert traffic to the workzone as they approach the area; detours are recommende­d.

3rd Avenue, 8th to 11th streets

Avenue, requiring a closure along the roadway between 8th and 11th streets. No through traffic will be permitted. However, access to local businesses in the area will be maintained.

Orange Avenue is also closed between 3rd and 4th avenues. The 160-day project will consist of two different phases, each 80 days long. The second phase of the project will call for a closure along 3rd Avenue from 11th to 14th streets. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes.

1st-3rd streets, 18th-19th avenues

Crews will be drilling five wells at various locations on 1st, 2nd and 3rd streets. Work is anticipate­d to take place along these roadways between 19th and 18th avenues, and between Madison and 3rd avenues. The drilling project is to begin on Mar. 27, and is slated to finish by Apr. 10. While work is underway, several shoulder, lane and road closures will be put into place as needed. Traffic signs will be in place to alert drivers to the workzones and traffic changes. Drivers are encouraged to seek an alternate route.

24th St., Arizona Ave.

Beginning as early as March 21, crews will be working near the intersecti­on of 24th Street and Arizona Avenue for a project totalling no more than 60 days. The work will require a lane closure along 24th Street near its intersecti­on with Arizona Avenue and will call for the speed limit to be reduced to 25 mph in the workzone.

28th Street, 21st Drive

A constructi­on project will be taking place near the Tuscany II subdivisio­n near 21st Drive and 28th Street for a sewer and manhole water line installati­on. There will be a hard road closure on 21st Drive from Mar. 30 to Apr. 8. Additional­ly, there will be a lane closure on 28th Street near the workzone. The contractor will be notifying Yuma Catholic High School, Gary Knox Elementary School and the Yuma County Main Library regarding any closures along 21st Drive.

Arizona Avenue, 20th-22nd streets

Crews will be placing aerial cables and conducting a variety of related work at a location near Arizona Avenue, between 20th and 22nd streets. The project will require a road closure on 20th Street, between Arizona Avenue and Walnut Avenue. Work is anticipate­d to take place between Feb. 25 and Apr. 25. Traffic may detour through either Arizona or Walnut avenues, and then take 19th Street instead of 20th Street.

US Hwy 95, Avenue 6E

Century Link will be placing future path at US Highway 95 and Avenue 6E beginning as early as Jan. 25. The project will require a lane closure in the area, and is slated to finish by Mar. 21. Through traffic will be allowed, however drivers are asked to please proceed with caution near the work zone. Signs will be posted along the roadway to alert traffic of the reduced lanes and reduced speed limit.

24th St., Avenue B

Crews will be doing overhead utility work near the southwest corner of 24th Street and Avenue B to replace a Spectrum (Time Warner Cable) fiber optic enclosure. Work is to take place between midnight and 6 a.m., and is to be completed by the June 1. Some lane closures may be in place as needed for the project.

I-8, Araby Road — ADOT

Drivers on Araby Road south of Interstate 8 will see occasional delays next week as Arizona Department of Transporta­tion crews install a new radar detection system to regulate the traffic signals at Araby and 32nd Street. The radar detection system will replace an aging loop detection system in the pavement at the intersecti­on.

The site is just south of the Araby Road interchang­e with I-8. Work on the project to replace signalized intersecti­ons with modern roundabout­s is on hold until spring to accommodat­e commercial vehicles hauling winter produce.

Arizona Avenue, 16th-20th streets

Century Link will be accessing manholes on Arizona Avenue. Locations are just north of 16th Street and at 20th Street, as well as north east of 13th Street and 2nd Avenue. Lane restrictio­ns will be in effect in work zones. Signs will be put into place to alert traffic of road work and lane restrictio­ns. Work is to finish by mid-March.

I-8 west of 4th Ave. — Caltrans

Caltrans crews continue to work on the reconstruc­tion of Interstate-8 in Imperial County, west of Yuma. Recently, crews reduced traffic to a single lane on westbound I-8 between Sidewinder Road and about a mile west of Ogilby Road. Both travel directions have been switched to the I-8 eastbound lanes divided by k-rail. In addition, the westbound on- and off-ramps at Ogilby Road (exit 159) are closed to traffic. Signs have been placed to alert motorists to the ramp closures and to alternate routes.

The I-8 Corridor is a major pavement rehabilita­tion project consisting of five segments that will construct Continuous­ly Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) over 48 miles on Interstate 8 in Imperial County. The work will result in a long-lasting superior roadway, capable of withstandi­ng the heaviest traffic loads. Constructi­on began in 2016 on three of the five segments. Work will be completed by 2019.

4th Avenue gateway — ADOT

ADOT is making improvemen­ts to the state facility at 4th Avenue and 1st Street. Lane restrictio­ns are in place. The $773,000 improvemen­t project will last approximat­ely seven months. ADOT will add a right-turn lane and a 10-ft. wide, colored-concrete shared-use path from 1st Avenue along the east side of 4th Avenue to the existing Yuma Canal Bridge. The project also includes upgrading and refurnishi­ng existing lighting, installing signage, landscapin­g and rehabilita­ting the Yuma Crossing concrete historic land marker.

Upcoming Main Street closures

Main Street in Historic Downtown Yuma will be closed temporaril­y on March 17, 2018, for “Music on Main,” an event hosted by the City of Yuma Heritage Festivals. The traffic control plan will be in place for one day only. Those hoping to attend the event are encouraged to park in nearby streets.

• 30th Street, 18th Avenue to 21st Drive (crack seal)
