Lady Mats sweep Pima

The Arizona Western softball team swept a doublehead­er on Saturday at home against Pima.

The Matadors (26-11, 20-6) defeated the Aztecs 8-3 in the opener and 8-0 in the second game.

Koryne Coddington (9-7) earned the win in the opener after pitching seven innings with two earned and six strikeouts.

Aylin Campa went 2-for-3 with a RBI and two runs, Allison Betty was 2-for-3 with two runs, Jessica Alvarez was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Michelle Roldan was 2-for-2 with a RBI.

Makenna Stram earned the win in the second game by going all five innings and only allowing one hit. She had three strikeouts.

Campa went 2-for-2, Danielle Burgos went 2-for-3 with two runs, Alvarez was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Roldan was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Allie Tito was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

AWC will be back on Tuesday at home against Chandler-Gilbert at noon.

Dubnyk, Foligno lead Wild over Coyotes

GLENDALE — Marcus Foligno scored the tiebreakin­g goal midway through the third period, leading the Minnesota Wild to a 3-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night.

Nino Niederreit­er also scored and Eric Staal added an emptynette­r to seal Minnesota’s fifth win in the last seven games. The Wild continued their hold on third place in the Central Division with 10 games to play in the regular season.

Devan Dubnyk, who spent 19 games with the Coyotes in the 2014-15 season, stopped 30 shots for his 200th career win.

Antti Raanta, back in net for the Coyotes after a six-game injury absence, finished with 28 saves. Clayton Keller scored the Coyotes’ only goal as they have lost backto-back games for the first time since Feb. 3 and 6.

Foligno’s eighth of the season came at 10:51 of the third. The Wild took advantage of an Arizona turnover behind Raanta’s net.

Staal scored with 18 seconds to play.
