Pen-pricks

• “Chappaquiddick” starring Jason Clarke as Teddy Kennedy certainly wasn’t the first family sex scandal. His brother Jack’s affair with a suspected Nazi spy, a suspected Soviet spy and a Mafia doll was investigated by the FBI. Long before the NSA, covert listening devices were called neighbors.

• President Trump tweeted a threat warning Russia that U.S. missiles will be headed for Syria that are nice and lean and smart. The language is familiar. It’s the military equivalent of your parent saying we’re going to turn this car around and go back home if you kids don’t cut it out.

• House Speaker Paul Ryan shocked Washington with the surprise announcement that he won’t run for re-election to Congress in November. Insiders could see his resignation coming. Everyone on Capitol Hill agrees Paul Ryan is a man of honor and principle, so he had to go.

Watching the opening game of the Arizona Diamondbacks was a treat. It was exciting to see the team win, but was also inspiring to see the moment when the four F-35 fighter jets performed the fly-over. Freedom is a wonderful thing, and it was on display at the Diamondbacks game, surrounded by proud fans. Arizona may be divided on many things, but thankfully, supporting the F-35 is not one of them. Congress just passed funding for 90 more of these fighter jets. Let’s hope the Diamondbacks have the same bright future as does this stealth fighter jet.

I want to send a big thank you to the AARP Volunteer Tax Aides at the Main Library. What a Godsend they all are. I for one am very grateful for all their help and patience. Thank you all ... you’re awesome ... you’re appreciated.
