Community college district board to talk budget Monday
Monday’s board meeting of the Yuma/La Paz Community College District will be preceded by a worksession.
The session, which will be held in the Francis Morris Boardroom of the Schoening Conference Center, will start at 9 a.m. The topic of the session will be the college’s preliminary budget for the 2018-2019 school year.
The board’s monthly business meeting will begin at 10 a.m. in the same room, and the board may take action on the preliminary budget during its midmorning meeting.
Vice President for Finance and Administrative Services Shahrooz Roohparvar will also ask the board to consider purchasing a dynamometer, an instrument that measures the power output of an engine, and approving the school’s monthly vouchers.
Board members will also hear reports from human resources, faculty and classified employee representatives, and from the student government association. The student of the month, Abraham Martinez, will be introduced by Dr. Linda Elliott-Nelson.
The board will be briefed by the following departments: public relations and marketing; student services; finance and administrative services; and learning services. Board member Maria Chavoya will also give a report on Association of District Governing Boards activities and meetings. Chavoya is the district’s representative to that organization.
Both the worksession and the meeting will be open to the public. The board’s next monthly business meeting is set for 9 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, at the Yuma campus. Individuals needing an accommodation to observe the meeting should call the office of the president, 344-7501, to make arrangements prior to the meeting.
