A 56-year-old Winterhaven man was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by a motorcycle while attempting to cross Interstate 8.

According to information provided by Officer Jason Salizzoni, of the CHP Winterhaven office, the collision happened at approximately 8:45 a.m. just west of the 4th Avenue overpass.

The man has been identified as Ivan Valisto.

The initial investigation into the collision revealed that the rider of a 2017 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling west on Interstate 8 in the far left passing lane.

At the same time Valisto was crossing the westbound lanes of Interstate 8 in a southerly direction.

Just after passing underneath the 4th Avenue overpass, Valisto walked directly into the path of the motorcycle.

The rider of the motorcycle, identified as a 51-yearold man from El Cajon, did not have time to react and ran into Valisto.

The male motorcycle rider, a 50-year-old female passenger and Valisto were transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where they were treated for their injuries.

Valisto died about an hour later. Both riders on the motorcycle had scrapes to their arms with the man complaining of pain to the pelvis and the woman pain to her abdomen.
