An ex­ces­sive heat warn­ing was is­sued by the Na­tional Weather Ser­vice for Wed­nes­day, which ex­pired at 8 p.m. The high tem­per­a­ture was fore­cast to be 111 de­grees. To­day, the fore­cast is for a high near 106 de­grees, with a 20 per­cent chance of rain and thun­der­storms in the fore­cast for Fri­day, with a fore­cast high of 96 de­grees. Si­mon Martinez wets down his back­yard (right) early Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon in an ef­fort to help pro­tect his grass and plants from ex­ces­sive heat.
