For the week of June 3-9, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 276 emergency calls for service, including:

• 15 general fire response

Including: A gas line broken by juveniles digging in backyard, a fire in attic of a motel above several rooms, an apartment oven fire extinguish­ed by fire sprinkler system, a fire in a small apartment building, a kitchen grease fire, and various alarms.

• 2 mutual aid

Including: Called to assist Rural Metro with a medical emergency in the county and assisted Imperial County with a fire in Winterhave­n.

• 13 motor vehicle crashes

Including: 1 involving a pedestrian, and 1 involving a head-on crash.

• 231 other medical emergencie­s (serious to minor)

Including: 26 for difficulty breathing, 17 for chest pain, 41 for falls, 11 for unconsciou­s people, 6 seizure cases, 2 possible stroke cases, 5 for intoxicate­d persons, 1 for a person under the influence of drugs, 2 for drug overdoses, 6 for people with psychiatri­c problems, 2 for dehydratio­n or heat illness, 4 for medical alarms, 3 for children locked in vehicles, 2 for allergic reactions, 15 for altered or decreased level of consciousn­ess, 2 for fevers, 3 for diabetic emergencie­s, 1 for ant bites, 4 for man down calls, 2 for uncontroll­ed bleeding, 1 for bad headaches, 1 for an assault, 3 for back pain, 8 for abdominal pain, 1 for laceration­s, 1 for a drowning of a 2-year-old in a backyard pool, 1 for a child with their head stuck in a cabinet, and other illnesses and injuries.

• 15 special duty, public assistance, and residentia­l assignment­s

Including: 2 for snake removals, 1 to assist in looking for a missing child (found unharmed), 1 for a vehicle fire, 1 for a dumpster fire, 1 for a tree on power lines, 2 for fuel leaking from vehicles, and various alarms.
