Health exams offered for returning students

Sunset Community Health Center is offering physical exams for children and teens returning to schools around Yuma County in August.

The exams will be offered from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday in July and on Aug. 4 for to those ranging in age from 3 to 17.

Sunset staff will check blood pressure, heartbeat, pulse, height and weight, and make other checks to make sure students are healthy and ready to go back into the classroom, said Lucy Murrieta, community relations director for the nonprofit health care agency.

“They perform much better when they don’t miss class and they’re feeling well and ready to learn,” she said.

Parents who wish to schedule their kids for the exams can call Sunset at (928) 819-8999. Exams will be provided at Sunset’s health centers at the following locations on these dates:

• July 7 at Sunset’s main health center in Yuma, 2060 W. 24th St.

• July 14 at Sunset’s health center in Wellton, 10435 Williams St.

• July 21 at the north Yuma health center, 675 Avenue B.

• July 28 at the Somerton health center, 115 N. Somerton Ave.

• Aug. 4 at the health center in San Luis, Ariz., at 815 E. Juan Sanchez Blvd.

This will be the seventh year Sunset has offered the exams. Each year about 4,000 students from undergo the exams.
