- BY AMY CRAWFORD SUN STAFF WRITER

The Crane School District governing board meeting Tuesday will open with a public hearing to adopt the district’s 2018-2019 budget.

The public hearing starts at 9 a.m. and will be at the boardroom of the Crane District Services Center, 930 S. Avenue C.

The board will be presented a budget of $54,229,197, which includes both state and federal funds, as well as monies from other sources, such as Prop 301 and gaming revenues.

The district’s maintenance and operations budget is increasing just 4.3 percent. The primary property tax rate is set to fall from 2.2018 to 2.0893, though an individual property owners’ bill will depend on a percentage of market value, which may have increased. The secondary property tax rate is set to drop by about 6 cents. Rates will be finalized later in the summer by the county superintendent’s office.

The budget hearing will be followed by the district’s monthly business meeting.

Under the board’s consent agenda, expense vouchers and payroll will be ratified, as well will be the student activity funds report. A 2018-2019 capital facilities plan is set to be adopted, as is the personnel report. The second reading and adoption of the new policy on the admission of students in foster care also falls under the consent agenda.

The board will also adopt minutes from prior regular/special meetings and executive session. A summary of current events is also set to be presented.

Board members may take action on the 2018-2019 budget, consider authorizing district administration to negotiate with AzTec High School for meal services, and hear a first reading of a revision to the field trip policy.

The board is also set to hear a presentation on the implementation of a new payroll calendar format.

The budget hearing and regular meeting are open to the public. Board members may attend by phone. The board reserves the right to enter into executive session on any item on the agenda. Executive sessions are not open to the public.

A copy of the agenda background material provided to the board members (with the exception of material relating to possible executive sessions) is available for public inspection at the District Office, 4250 W. 16th St. A copy of the board packet is available for inspection at the desk of the governing board secretary during district business hours 24 hours prior to the day of the meeting.
