No need for boredom: Ways to fill the days of summertime

- Magnolia Alonzo

It is summertime, and it could not have come any sooner. You are excited because finally vacation time is here; family, friends, beach, time to relax, it is the time you have waited for all year long. Now think, what is your favorite pastime activity? You probably have it already planned out, or it is still in the works, or better yet, you like to take it day by day. Whatever it may be, there might still be days when boredom takes the best out of you, and you are just not sure what to do during summer break. Here are some refreshing tips that will help you bring some spice into those dull summer days.

As a student or a typical person who works day-in day-out, it is normal that you may not get enough sleep during the normal year, summer break is the perfect time to re-energize and regain all the lost sleep time. By no means am I saying to become a lazy person and not take care of your responsibilities. But if there is extra time when nothing productive is being done, then take the time to add a few extra hours of sleep into your day. Your body will thank you later, as we all lack hours of sleep daily.

Another great tip is to follow up on your school for next year. What classes will you be taking, what extra-curricular activities will you like to participate in? Do you have to get a head start on your reading for your classes? Will you be taking a part-time job or will there be no time for that? If you are all done with school and you are just on summer break from work, then think of your future projects at work, research what is going to be your focus for the upcoming year. What will your motto be for the new year?

Next, if you like pets or own pets, plan an activity with them. Invite friends and plan a pet party with your friends. This is always fun and your pets will love it as there is never enough time to spend with them, as life is always busy. Your pets and your friends’ pets will feel appreciated and loved. If you are not a pet person, then perhaps volunteering at the local hospital, food bank, library, or any other local organization that may be organizing summer activities. This is a great time to donate your time to people and organizations in need. You could also get your friends or family involved in these volunteer activities.

Additionally, there might also be great TV shows or awesome books that you just have not been able to watch or read due to lack of time, now is the time. This is the time to catch up to your favorite show or book and indulge yourself because you may never have the time again to watch or read them until next summer. You could also focus on finishing those sketches and drawings you have always wanted to finish, or complete your scripts left from last summer. You might be a person who likes music, this may be the perfect time for you to write music. Let your creativity flow, become the musician you have always wanted to be.

The point is that you do not allow yourself to say you are bored. Find the fun within you by focusing on the activities you like and those around you. Always stay productive and proactive, never letting the negativity and slothfulness take over.
