Nonprofit honors Grijalva for his service
A national non-profit organization has honored U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva for the services his district offices provide constituents.
The Congressional Management Foundation presented the Tucson Democrat with its Democracy Award for best constituent services, in recognition of services provided by his district offices, including the Somerton office that serves south Yuma County.
“It is an honor for me to receive this recognition, but it’s mostly due to the staff in the offices in Somerton, in Tucson and Avondale, all of whom work hard to take care of the public with equality and honesty for all,” he aid.
Grijalva’s staff also travels monthly to Nogales, Ariz., to serve constituents in the congressman’s District 3, which comprises southern Yuma County and parts or all of Maricopa, Pima, Pinal and Santa Cruz counties.
“Every day, many people come to our offices with specific matters and needs for information about issues like immigration, how to navigate federal agencies or with questions about programs like Medicaid or Medicare, and we try to help them and give them the correct information,” Grijalva said.
“As a winner of the Democracy Award, Grijalva’s office is clearly one of the best in Congress. This (award) demonstrates that he has made a meaningful commitment to be a better public servant for his voters in Arizona. Rep. Grijalva and his staff should be happy not only in being a model for his colleagues in Congress but also helping to restore the trust and faith that allow our democratic institutions to function,” said Bradford Fitch, president and chief executive officer of the foundation.
This is the first year the foundation has presented the Democracy Awards. John Boozman, a Republican senator from Arkansas, also received a Democracy Award for constituent service.
Established in 1977, the Washington, D.C.-based foundation seeks to promote trust and effectiveness in Congress.
