Fire House Facts

During the week of Aug. 12-18, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 287 emergency calls for service, including:

• 9 general fire responses

Including: An illegal trash fire, an intentiona­lly set fire in a vacant house, a water heater leaking gas in a garage, a house fire with 2 homes involved, 3 cooking fires (with one extinguish­ed by the apartment fire sprinkler system), and various alarms.

• 16 motor vehicle crashes

Including: 2 involving walls (1 involving a motorcycle ), 2 involving 3 vehicles, 2 head-on crashes, and 1 involving a power pole.

• 240 other medical emergencie­s (serious to minor)

Including: 27 for difficulty breathing, 17 for chest pain, 28 for falls, 11 for unconsciou­s people, 8 seizure cases, 1 possible stroke case, 4 for intoxicate­d persons, 3 for a drug overdoses, 13 for people with psychiatri­c problems, 4 for dehydratio­n or heat illness, 3 for medical alarms, 2 for children locked in vehicles, 2 for allergic reactions,15 for altered or decreased level of consciousn­ess, 2 for fevers, 7 for diabetic emergency, 1 for a dog bite, 11 for man down calls, 2 for uncontroll­ed bleeding, 1 for a person who burned their hand on a stove, 3 for bad headaches, 3 for assaults, 3 for back pain, 8 for abdominal pain, 1 pregnancy related, 1 for deceased person, 3 for laceration­s, 1 for a 4 yr. old with their arm stuck in a railing, 1 for a person with their foot stuck in a power chair, 1 for a person stuck in an elevator, and other illnesses and injuries.

Including: 1 for trees on fire on CA side of river, and various alarms.
