Paper change helps Yumans Get Involved
Revamped feature intended to help Yumans find groups, organizations
Yumans’ dedication to helping others is unparalleled. Yumans volunteer at organizations like Amberly’s Place, Helping Hands of Yuma and Hospice of Yuma, and join service groups like Rotary and the Yuma Quartermaster Evening Lions Club.
Yumans like to be active, getting their hands dirty with a local garden club, or working on their public speaking skills at Toastmasters. And there are a variety of special interest groups and clubs here, from knitting groups to experimental aircraft enthusiasts.
Yuma also offers several organizations specifically designed to support veterans of all ages, from the American Legion to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and everything in between.
All of these groups and more hold regular meetings in Yuma, ready to welcome new members at any point. But it can be challenging to navigate all of these groups, and know which group meets when, or where they are located. Previously, we published the Ongoing Events listings on Tuesday, and then the Veterans Scene on Friday, with a smattering of other meeting information here and there.
But the Yuma Sun team has been giving this issue a lot of thought, with one goal: making it easier for readers to find the information they need to connect to all of these groups and organizations.
Now, every Tuesday, readers of the Yuma Sun can find a new feature called Get Involved, which showcases the organizations and groups that call Yuma home.
From volunteer opportunities to crafting to politics to service organizations to veterans groups, there is a little something for just about everyone. We’re pulling in all of the meeting and group information into one central location, so Yumans and visitors alike can see the options, and find one that best fits their interests.
I should also note that Get Involved isn’t replacing What’s Going On. That column, which features onetime events, festivals and happenings, will still appear each day in Desert Life. Get Involved will focus on the standing meetings and reoccurring events for local organizations.
