Yuma police have located and identified the driver and vehicle responsible for allegedly damaging a power pole in a hit-and- run collision that left more than 600 residents without electricity for several hours Wednesday night.

At approximately 6 p.m., officers were dispatched to a hit-and-run vehicle collision that occurred in the 2100 block of West 8th Street.

When officers arrived on scene they found that a white four-door sedan had been struck and an APS power pole had been knocked down, causing an outage to the area.

YPS spokesperson Sgt. Lori Franklin said the incident happened when a Ford F-150 pickup traveling northbound on 8th Street approaching 21st Avenue suddenly veered off the road and struck the APS power pole.

Franklin said that after hitting the power pole, the F-150 pickup struck a white four-door sedan stopped at the intersection of 21st Avenue, waiting to turn onto 8th Street. The vehicle then fled the scene.

APS was notified and they advised it would take approximately six to eight hours to restore power. No injuries were reported in the collision.

According to the APS website, a total of 658 customers were affected in the area of 2nd Street to 12th Street and Avenue B to Avenue A.

The driver of the Ford F-150 pickup has been questioned by police and the collision remains under investigation.
