Single-engine plane crashes near Prescott airport; 1 killed

PRESCOTT — Authoritie­s are using dental records to identify a pilot who died after a small plane crashed short of a runway at Prescott’s airport.

Prescott police say the one person aboard the single-engine plane was killed when it crashed about a quarter-mile from the approach end of a runway Wednesday night.

A photograph of the crash site appears to show charred wreckage in a field adjacent to the airport.

The Yavapai County Medical Examiner is expected to confirm the pilot’s identity by next week after checking dental records.

Authoritie­s say the pilot had left Prescott and was intending to return to the airport.

The cause of the crash isn’t immediatel­y known and the National Transporta­tion Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administra­tion will be investigat­ing.

Missing Tucson man is found dead in desert near Three Points

TUCSON — Pima County Sheriff’s officials say the remains of a missing Tucson man have been found in a remote desert area northwest of Three Points.

They say a deputy discovered the remains of 89-year-old Robert Crubaugh around noon Wednesday.

The cause of death hasn’t been determined yet.

Authoritie­s say Crubaugh was last seen Aug. 4 when he left his home in a vehicle to run errands after speaking with his neighbor.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, Crubaugh’s family says he was diagnosed with early stages of dementia and had not been taking his medication.

U.S. Border Patrol agents were conducting a search in a helicopter when they spotted a suspicious vehicle Wednesday morning.

Coordinate­s to the vehicle were relayed to a sheriff’s deputy who found Crubaugh’s body inside the vehicle.
