YC loses the first home volleyball game of the season in straight sets to Valley Christian
Thursday’s performance wasn’t quite what Yuma Catholic volleyball was looking for to close the opening week of the season.
The Shamrocks fell in three sets to Valley Chris- tian (25-20, 25-12, 25-16), despite having some glimpses of success overshadowed by an onslaught of rallies by the Trojans.
“Tomorrow we’re going to practice a lot in the gym,” YC coach Dusti Williamson said. “We’re going to see what we need to work on after film.”

12 points came as the result of aces.
The decent serving in the match wouldn’t be enough to overcome the freeballs played up by the Shamrocks, which usually resulted in a kill coming right back at them.
“It gave them too many opportunities to bang on the ball. Number 12 was a very good hitter,” Williamson said.
The best set for YC was clearly the first, where it led most of the way through. The Shamrocks had five aces in the set and they even led 16-15 late.
With the lead one mistake became two, and so on to help Valley Christian finish the first set on a 10-4 run.
A big part of the team’s play early was led by senior Joy Morris with four kills and four digs and junior Ali Schmunk with nine assists and five aces.
