Teen turns himself in, YCSO says
He had been sought for questioning in connection to triple homicide, is arrested on drug charges
The 19-year-old man sought for questioning in connection to a triple murder that happened at a home in the 2700 block of West 5th Street earlier this month turned himself in Friday morning to investigators from the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office.
Spokesperson Alfonso Zavala said that at approximately 10 a.m., Jimmie Roy Jordan turned himself in and that investigators wanted to interview him in connection to the shooting deaths of 20-year-old Grady Baxter, 19-year-old Nicholas Grabbe and 24-year-old Javier Sanchez, all from Yuma.
Jordan has since been arrested on 10 felony drug charges ranging from drug paraphernalia to narcotic sales, according to Zavala. Because Jordan was on unsupervised probation stemming from a DUI case out of Yuma Municipal Court in March, he is ineligible for bond.
“Jordan was wanted in reference to this case,” Zavala said. “He was booked based on evidence gathered from a search warrant executed at a residence.”
The murders were first reported at around 1:20 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, after a caller reported seeing a body inside a residence in the 2700 block of West 5th Street. When deputies arrived at the scene and searched the home, they found three dead men. All three had died of apparent gunshot wounds.
Sheriff’s office investigators and the Yuma Police Department worked through the night collecting evidence from the scene, and the street was closed to all traffic between the 2500 and 2800 blocks as well.
There had been rumors that gunshots had been heard the night before, but the sheriff’s office did not receive any reports of it.
Then on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at approximately 8:45 a.m., deputies served a search warrant at a residence in the 8400 block of South Yavapai Lane in reference to the case.
The sheriff’s office does not believe the murders were a random event.
The homicide case remains open and authorities continue to encourage anyone with information regarding this case to contact the Yuma County Sheriff’s Office at 928-783-4427 or 78-CRIME to remain anonymous. You can also visit www.yumacountysheriff. org to submit an anonymous tip.
