Highway 95 will be closed intermittently for tests on Saturday

- BY JAMES GILBERT @YSJAMESGILBERT

The Arizona Department of Transportation is advising motorists to expect intermittent road closures along Highway 95 on Saturday.

The reason is that the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground is scheduled to conduct military testing that will require the road to be closed in 30-minute intervals to ensure public safety.

The following restrictions are scheduled to take place between Aberdeen Road (milepost 48) and Stone Cabin (milepost 74) beginning at 10 a.m. and ending at 2:30 p.m.

US 95 will be closed in both directions from 10 to 10:30 a.m., from noon to 12:30 p.m. and from 2 to 2:30 p.m.

Flaggers will be on site to direct traffic. Drivers are asked to use caution around public safety personnel and equipment, and to obey posted speed limits and traffic control devices.

Public Affairs Officer Chuck Wullenjohn explained that there are between 60 and 90 tests being conducted at Yuma Proving Ground any given week.

Those tests, he added, range in category from non-classified, which can be discussed with the media and the general public, to classified, sensitive and top secret.

Wullenjohn said that Saturday’s test is considered to be sensitive in nature and as such he is not able to talk about it.

Schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors. For more information, please call the ADOT Project Information Line at 855712-8530 or email Projects@ azdot.gov.
