Health center’s mobile flu shot campaign begins this month
A local health center this month will offer a mobile unit that will provide flu shots and free health screenings to the Yuma County population.
Sunset Community Health Center will host its 8th annual Wellness on Wheels Flu Campaign starting on Oct. 2.
The campaign will take place until the end of October on various dates and at various locations. During the campaign, free flu shots for children and adults over the age of 3 will be offered as well as free health screenings. Materials provided by SCHC show appointments are not necessary.
The Centers for Disease Control defines influenza and/or “flu” as a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that can cause mild to severe illness. According to the CDC website people with certain health conditions, older people, and young children are at higher risk of serious flu complications.
Health screenings that will be offered during the campaign include glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, height/weight, body mass index, hemoglobin screenings and more.
Additionally, certified application counselors and navigators will be available to answer questions regarding medical care services, women’s health, behavioral health, supplemental nutrition assistance program (SNAP), kids care, AHCCCS, the medical discount program and Marketplace Special enrollment questions.
