Fire House Facts
During the week of Sept. 16-22, the Yuma Fire Department responded to 279 emergency calls for service, including:
• 12 General Fire Responses
Including: A small fire in a store dairy case, a small grass fire, smoke from an oven, bathroom fan smoking, a/c unit smoking, a fire in flooring of a trailer, and various alarms
• 19 Motor Vehicle Crashes
Including: 2 involving poles, 3 involving motorcycles (1 fatality), and 2 involving head-on crashes
• 227 Other Medical Emergencies (serious to minor)
Including: 27 for difficulty breathing, 18 for chest pain, 25 for falls, 10 for unconscious people, 5 seizure cases, 4 possible stroke cases, 2 for intoxicated persons, 2 for people under the influence of drugs, 5 drug overdoses, 16 for people with psychiatric problems, 3 for dehydration, 3 for a medical alarm, 4 for children locked in vehicles, 3 for allergic reaction, 1 for choking, 12 for altered or decreased level of consciousness, 7 for diabetic emergencies, 2 for a spider bites, 7 for man down calls, 3 for uncontrolled bleeding, 2 for bad headaches, 2 for a gunshot wound, 4 for assaults, 10 for back pain, 3 for abdominal pain, 1 pregnancy related, 2 for deceased persons, 3 for lacerations, 1 for a foot stuck under a vehicle, and other illnesses and injuries
• 21 Special Duty, Public Assistance, and Residential Assignments
Including: 2 for snake removals, 1 for assisting YPD with a biohazard cleanup at a crash scene, 1 for a small brush fire, 1 for a downed power line, and various alarms
