Chef Alex opens new eatery: JT Bros Handcrafted Sandwiches
New owner reopens Nadia’s Gianta Pizzza; Precision Automotive to ‘take the mystery out of auto repair’
Chef Alex Trujillo, who owns and operates The Patio Restaurant and Bar at the Desert Hills Golf Course, and Catering by Design, is trying something new: “making really good sandwiches.”
On Black Friday, he opened JT Bros Handcrafted Sandwiches, 712 E. 32nd St., in the space formerly occupied by the La Casa Deli. The location also houses his catering kitchen and business office.
JT Bros is “not your average sandwich shop,” Trujillo said. “We’re trying new things.”
The diverse menu includes items such as Banh Mi made with pork belly on a French baguette; Cubra Libra filled with pulled pork; and Cauliflower “Steak,” a vegan option. One of Trujillo’s favorites is the Chipotle Veggie Patty Melt which has caramelized onions, mushrooms and vegan cheese.
The shop offers “some good, some healthy, and some good and not-sohealthy options,” he quipped. The “healthy” include green juices bottled fresh every day for those on the go. Trujillo said he wants to offer “quick and easy” options for those who need breakfast or lunch in a hurry. For them, he has fresh salads made daily, acai and fruit cups and fruit bowls. Other options include avocado toast and breakfast sandwiches and burritos.
The shop is named after his and wife Roxy’s three sons, Julio, 14, Jayden, 7, and Jakob, 5 (the couple also has a daughter).
JT Bros is open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday. For those that want to hang out, the shop has a record player that plays real vinyl records and a jukebox.
