Allstate, Montana Steak House move; Sweet Desert Delights, Coco’s close doors

- Comings and Goings

Allstate agent and agency owner Jeanne Weatherly has moved. “For 20 years I had been in the same location and for 20 years people did not know I was there,” she said.

She moved from 11611 S. Foothills Blvd., Suite F, up the road into the Foothills Village Shopping Center, 11242 S. Foothills, Suite 25.

Weatherly has 18 years with Allstate, having taken over Dutch McDowell’s agency in 2001, but she has 20 years experience in the insurance industry. She noted that Allstate started in 1931 under the Sears brand, and although it’s no longer affiliated with that company, it’s still known for “putting customers in good hands” and now it’s also known for “protecting them from mayhem.”

Allstate might be known for auto and home insurance but it also offers a full line of protection, including life and retirement, landlords insurance, Mexico trip insurance, commercial, workers compensation and employee benefits such as short-term disability and group life insurance. The company also protects ATVs, motorcycles, boats, jet skis and even snowmobiles, if a Yuman should have one, she jokes.

Allstate partners with Hagerty for classic cars, Embrace for pet insurance, Allianz for travel insurance, American Modern for vacation rentals, mobile homes, park models and other accessory structures such as casitas.

Community involvement is very important for Weatherly. She regularly raises funds for Old Souls Animal Rescue and Retirement Home and the Purple Purse Foundation which helps domestic violence survivors. She also sponsors events such as Camp Rzr at Glamis Imperial Sand Dunes, San Luis Off Road Expo and Nostalgia Car Show.

Weatherly’s hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and weekends by appointments. However, she adds, “if the light is on, come on in.” To reach her, call 928-305-1607 (office) or 480-244-6823 (cell). *** Montana Steak House is one of the food trucks that had to move from the property next to Walgreens on Fortuna Boulevard to make way for construction of the Fortuna Palms commercial center.

The food truck is now at 11666 S. Foothills Blvd., across from the Foothills Bank. It’s famous for steak sandwiches and steak on a stick, a 6-ounce sirloin served on a skewer with a baked potato or french fries. They also serve ribeye steaks, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs and chicken and pulled pork sandwiches. Everything is made fresh, and they cut and grind their own meat.

It’s also BYOB: bring your own booze and sit next to the fire pit on chilly nights. Owner Jacque Corbett will cook your meals, and Michelle Schuma Johnson will take your order and serve the food.

For those who missed it, developer Ross Wait is building Fortuna Palms, which will include fast food restaurants and a hotel. Fortuna Palms also includes the area across the road, where the Verizon and Chevron are situated. On this side, Wait is building a 12,000-square-foot commercial building that will house a real estate firm, title company, physical therapist and retailer. In addition, an established eatery will be leaving its longtime location elsewhere and relocating to this spot. **** I’ve received several inquiries about the new building construction at Avenue A and 24th Street, across from the Yuma Regional Medical Center. It will be an office building. The developer is Zayd LLC, which is owned by Dr. Sa’ad Al Alou, a pediatrician with Yuma Kids Clinic. *** Sweet Desert Delights Old Fashion Ice Cream and Candy Parlor has closed its doors, only a few short weeks after opening in the Foothills Village Shopping Center.

Stephanie Barleen, coowner with Jeff Burget, explained in a Facebook post on Nov. 26: “We did not want to close the Sweet Desert Delights Ice Cream shop in the Foothills. Unfortunately we were forced to. I cannot go into detail. Everything happened very quickly and my heart is still breaking. I put my heart and soul into that shop.”

Another Facebook entry posted Nov. 16 noted that they have received “nothing but good support” so they’ve decided to open the shop at the Yuma Indoor Marketplace, 2800 S. Pacific Ave., by Walmart. *** Coco’s Bakery Restaurant, 2198 S. 4th Ave., also closed on Nov. 25. The chain is known for its
