President, wife were gracious, friendly at YPG

Yuma Sun - - OPINION -

When I worked at Yuma Proving Ground a few years ago, former President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara, visited for a special personal event. Since he had been shot down over the Pacific in WWII, he wanted to jump out of a plane ON PURPOSE!

I was privileged to be part of a group of people at the base theater where he spoke and answered questions. Barbara sat next to him and there was a third chair, empty, next to her. She kept trying to get someone to come and sit by her on the stage, but no one was brave enough. They were both so gracious and friendly and cordial. It was memorable and heartwarming.
