Ci­bola boys hang on late

The Ci­bola boys bas­ket­ball team nearly let a dou­ble-digit sec­ond-half lead go to waste but ral­lied for a 57-51 vic­tory over Cen­tral (Calif.) at home on Tues­day night.

The Raiders led by as many as 15 points in the third quar­ter but trailed 5047 with less than two min­utes re­main­ing be­fore clos­ing the game on a 10-1 run. All 10 of their points dur­ing that stretch came from the free throw line.

Qua­nah Lock­lear led Ci­bola with 16 points, while Chris Fer­nan­dez also fin­ished in dou­ble fig­ures at 10 points. Ja­son San­doval added nine points, while Der­rick Barnes and Adrian Her­nan­dez had seven each.

Azrel Gon­za­lez and Aaron Perez scored the Crim­i­nals’ two goals. Gon­za­lez scored off an as­sist from Bryan Cer­vantes, while Perez scored on a penalty kick.

Jen­nifer Moreno, Ch­eryl Bar­nett, Jada Bar­nett and Eliani Neri pro­vided the goals for the Raiders, while Me­lanie Yanez picked up the shutout in goal.

Moreno opened the scor­ing in the 12th minute off an as­sist from Jada Bar­nett, Ch­eryl Bar­nett made it 2-0 in the 30th minute, Jada Bar­nett made it 3-0 in the 76th minute off an as­sist from Neri, and Neri capped the scor­ing in the 80th minute off an as­sist from Bianca Navarro.

Veron­ica Saco (19 points, 7 as­sists, 5 steals), Sab­rina Bor­land (11 points, 10 re­bounds) and Joy Mor­ris (12 points, 4 as­sists, 6 steals) led the way for the Sham­rocks.

San Pasqual 77, North Val­ley Chris­tian 15

Mary Amador (15 points), Bri­anna Ar­riaga (14) and Keija Ko­teen (9) were the lead­ing scor­ers for the War­riors.
