Lady Mats struggle in 2nd half
For one half the Arizona Western women’s basketball team did what it needed to do to pull off an upset, but the floodgates burst open after the break as they struggled to keep up with Cochise College at home Wednesday night.
The Mats (2-7 overall, 1-3 ACCAC) fell 55-36 to the Apaches (7-2, 3-1) after only trailing by four at halftime. The game got away from AWC after the break when Cochise became

a bit more assertive on the defensive end.
“Defensively we played hard and competed,” AWC coach Patrick Cunningham said. “We rebounded with them. In the end you have to be able to generate some offense. If they’re converting turnovers into points, it hurts. We couldn’t get to the freethrow line in the second half. The game got kind of rough, which favors them, because they are more athletic.”
