First Take

A letter writer in last week’s Kudos from Readers praised JCPenney employees here for their behavior on Black Friday.

Here’s my JC Penney story: When my mother died 15 years ago in Tucson, my brother and I were in need of black suits for the funeral. We decided to go together to the biggest mall in town.

We decided to go suithunting on our own and meet up an hour later. I went to a couple of stores but didn’t see anything I liked, so I ventured into JCPenney.

A young man in the suit department asked what he could help me find. I told him, then he took my measurements. He brought over a very nice suit that was a perfect fit for me.

I thanked him for being so attentive and professional, then I went to meet my brother near the mall exit. As I got closer to him I could see that he also had a suit bag draped over his shoulder. To my surprise, it also was from JCPenney! We had both tried other stores and ended up at JCP at different times. He also praised the employees and customer service there.

To this day, JCP has a special place in my heart because it helped get me and my brother through a very difficult time in our lives.
