4 home intruders shot, 1 killed
The Yuma County Sheriffs Office is investigating a home invasion on Thursday in which all four intruders were shot, one fatally, by an occupant of the household.
Spokesperson Alfonso Zavala said the incident happened at about 1:38 a.m. at a residence in the 3800 block of East County 18½ Street, with deputies responding to the location after a report of a home invasion.
Zavala said when deputies arrived on scene they learned that the occupants of the home had been awoken by noises outside their house and that several unknown individuals were trying to get inside.
He went on to say that the unknown individuals eventually entered the home unlawfully and during the process of the home invasion and burglary, someone in the home shot at them.
“The occupants did not know the subjects,” Zavala said. “The subjects made entry into the home and an occupant fired multiple rounds, striking all four of them.”
One of the individuals, identified as 36-year-old Edith Guerrero, was transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound and later flown to a Phoenix-area hospital.
Jaden James, 18, of Mesa, also sustained a gunshot wound as a result of the incident. He fled the area on foot afterward and was transported to YRMC where he is currently being treated.
Another individual suspected of being involved, 27-year-old Leonardo Gonzlalez, drove himself and another suspect, 28-yearold Jessica Aynes, to YRMC.
Gonzalez was later flown to a Phoenix-area hospital. Aynes, however, was pronounced dead.
