City to provide engineering services for veterans home project
Yuma has agreed to provide engineering services in support of a proposed veterans home project.
During a Dec. 19 meeting, the City Council approved a contract with the Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services, agreeing to provide engineering services for the project.
The state will be constructing an 80-bed veterans home at Avenue 6E and 34th Street. The state expects to break ground in the spring.
The facility is funded through a Veterans Administration grant and funds provided by ADVS. In support of this facility, ADVS requested that the city provide engineering services for the design of associated off-site roadway improvements and the extension of water and sewer lines.
The city has been “very supportive” of the project, as noted in a staff report. It transferred about 11 acres of city-owned land to the state for the facility. The council approved this action in June.
The agreement outlines the scope of engineering work and state and city responsibilities. The city will be responsible for the construction plans, specifications and an estimate of costs. The city has no construction responsibilities.
The primary responsibilities of the state will be to provide the city with the necessary AutoCAD files, secure a power supply from APS for new street lights and reimburse the city for the cost of engineering services, which is estimated at $12,475.

PRESCOTT — Authorities say a small plane crash landed in Prescott, and no injuries were reported.
According to the city, the crash happened Thursday afternoon at Prescott Regional Airport when the aircraft turned sharply, became inverted and came to rest upside down.
Authorities say that in addition to the pilot apparently suffering no injuries, the crash did not result in a fire and no commercial air traffic was interrupted.
The plane was identified as a small tail-wheel aircraft. The small airport is north of downtown Prescott, and it lists commercial daily flights to Denver and Los Angeles.
