Obamas take top title in Gallup poll

Couple named ‘most admired’ man and woman by Americans

-

Who’s the most admired man and woman? Barack and Michelle Obama, according to a recent Gallup poll.

The former first lady has been on tour recently promoting her new book, so that result isn’t necessarily surprising.

What was surprising is the fact that the previous “most admired” woman, Hillary Clinton, held the spot for the last 17 years, an astonishing number of years, especially given the nasty 2016 presidential election. However, she has led a high-profile life, serving as First Lady, U.S. senator, secretary of state and presidential candidate. This year, Clinton was bumped down to third place.

For women, the top five places were as follows: first, Michelle Obama; second, Oprah Winfrey; and third, a tie between Hillary Clinton and Melania Trump. The fourth place spot was a four-way tie between Queen Elizabeth, Angela Merkel, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Ellen DeGeneres, while fifth place was a three-way tie between Nikki Haley, Malala Yousafzai and Nancy Pelosi.

For men, the top four places were as follows: first, Barack Obama; second, Donald Trump; third, a twoway tie between George W. Bush and Pope Francis, and fourth, a seven-way tie between Bill Gates, Bernie Sanders, Bill Clinton, Dalai Lama, Joe Biden, Elon Musk and Mike Pence.

Gallup asked Americans in an open-ended question to name the man and woman living anywhere today whom they admire most.

The questions were phrased, “What man that you have heard or read about, living today in any part of the world, do you admire most? And who is your second choice?” “What woman that you have heard or read about, living today in any part of the world, do you admire most? And who is your second choice?”

Given that open-ended question, would you agree with the results, Yuma? Who do you feel is your mostadmired man or woman in the world, and why? Let us know. Share your thoughts online at www.YumaSun. com, or send in a Letter to the Editor at letters@ yumasun.com.
