Tuesday’s hearing in Yuma County Superior Court for the 23-year-old man charged in connection to the armed robbery of a Foothills truck stop was continued in order to give his attorney more time to continue preparing the case.

In providing the court with an update on the status of the case, attorney Cynthia Brubaker, of the Yuma County Public Defenders Office, explained that she has received a compact disc of evidence and made several jail visits to speak with her client, but had not finished reviewing all the material in the case.

She also informed the court that her client has probation violation cases and requested that all three case be tracked together — meaning that they are always held together during the same hearing.

Brubaker represents Jimmy Lee McMullin, who has been charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He remains in Yuma County jail on a $200,000 bond.

Superior Court Judge Brandon Kinsey, who is presiding over the case, granted both of Brubaker’s requests, scheduling the next hearing for all three of McMullin’s cases for 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 5.

According to the Yuma County Sheriffs Office, deputies responded to the Flying J Travel Plaza at 10800 E. North Frontage Road at about 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 18 after a report of an armed robbery.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that an unknown male suspect — wearing all black clothing and armed with a large knife — entered the store, jumped over the counter, stuck the knife in the side of the cashier, and demanded money.

The cashier cooperated with the robber’s demand and was uninjured. The suspect then fled the business with an undisclosed amount of money.

The YCSO Criminal Investigation Bureau responded to the scene and resumed the investigation. During the investigation, detectives located evidence that lead them to a home in the 10700 Block of South Amber Drive where the suspect was located.
