The City of Yuma’s quarterly Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day event returns this weekend in the east parking lot of the Yuma Civic Center, which is located at 1440 W. Desert Hills Drive.

The event is being held Saturday, Jan. 12, from 8 a.m. to noon.

The city uses these days to collect potentially dangerous chemicals and substances that should not be disposed of in landfills or drains, including flammable or toxic compounds used in vehicles, yards or homes, along with electronic devices.

This type of waste requires special care to be properly disposed of. The city’s collection day provides a free opportunity for residents to safely dispose of these products, such as paint, batteries, pesticides and cleaners, by simply dropping them off, according to a press release.

To participate, collect your unwanted household hazardous waste items and take them to the Civic Center parking lot, where traffic control devices will show vehicles to the dropoff site.

Then, describe the types of waste to be collected. From there, staff will provide instructions for which station(s) to stop to drop off waste. Recycling bins for waste including paper, clear plastic, aluminum cans, metal or cardboard items are always available to the public at the same location,

Other hazardous waste collections days have been scheduled for April 6 from 8 a.m. to noon, July 13 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and Oct. 12 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Residents with any questions can all the City’s Public Works Department at (928) 373-4504.
