Pen-pricks

• The Hollywood Reporter says TV ratings were way down for the Hollywood awards shows last year. The Golden Globe Awards are followed by the Academy Awards, later followed by the Emmy Awards. If you watch all three, that’s up to ten hours of lectures that can be applied to college credits.

• President Trump gave a prime-time speech to the nation live from the Oval Office on network TV Tuesday. In my mind, he sketched out his plan for the Trump Presidential Library. It’s a very narrow building, twenty feet high and two thousand miles long, and offers a beautiful view of Mexico.

• The U.S. Chamber of Commerce predicted a huge number of new businesses opening up in the next year due to the improved economy. I have decided to open a gym called Resolutions. It will be filled up with exercise equipment for the first two weeks, then it turns into a bar for the rest of the year.

• The National Institute of Health released a national survey of alcohol consumption per capita by state and reported that Wisconsin is the heaviest-drinking state in the Union. It could be time for an intervention. Last night Wisconsin got so drunk, it woke up in bed this morning with West Virginia.

I would like to say a big THANK YOU to Fisher Chevrolet. I had an accident in October and needed to purchase a vehicle.

In my haste, I did not get what I wanted or needed.

The people at Fisher bent over backwards to get me in a vehicle that suited my wants and needs. I cannot say enough about how well I was treated.

Special thanks go out to Jesse and Kevin. I highly recommend this business.

I am a winter visitor and chose to have my aorta valve replacement at Yuma Regional Medical Center. I was lucky enough to get Dr. James Moon as my surgeon.

I want to thank Dr. Moon for his excellent work, the staff in ICU and YRMC for their excellent care.

I went to Yuma Rehab Hospital for 11 days where they helped me tremendously and all the staff was so kind.

I feel blessed to be alive and am now at our winter home and working on getting my strength back.

I could not have done this without all of your help, including my awesome husband and daughter who have the hardest part of all: keeping up my spirits and putting up with me.

Thank you to all who participated in any way, especially Dr. Moon for making it all happen!

The Friends of the Foothills Library recently held a book sale which netted more than $800.

This money will help fund the many programs that our library sponsors, including the purchase of the telescopes used in our popular stargazing events.

We thank many people for our success: the generous folks who donated books; our loyal customers; the area businesses, RV parks and churches who displayed our flyers; the hardworking members of our

During this season of giving, many people are on the hunt for the perfect gift. We have a small group of Donate Life Arizona volunteers — which we nicknamed Team Yuma — that works to make sure the Desert Southwest doesn’t forget about the gift of life.

The best gift you can give anyone doesn’t cost a thing, and everyone can sign up as an organ and tissue donor to save lives.

More importantly, there are no health requirements to register.

Up to age 15.5, you will need the permission from your parents or guardian. No age limits after that! Our youngest daughter received a donor heart almost six years ago. So, we know how important it is to share life and to provide hope for the 2,200 people in Arizona who are waiting for that second chance.

To Yuma donor families, we thank you so much for sharing such a gift and changing the world with your generosity.

Team Yuma participated in the Yuma County Employees Health and Wellness fair.

We are humbled by the 26 people who registered to be organ, tissue and cornea donors.

Our volunteers will be looking for more events to attend in and around Yuma to continue educating the public about organ and tissue donation and registering folks throughout 2019.

But you don’t have to wait until you see us in public. Visit www. DonateLifeAZ.orgto register now!
