Band Allison to play show in Somerton

- BY CESAR NEYOY

Guitar aerobics? No, it’s nothing like air guitar.

“Aerobics with a guitar” is how Erik Canales, vocalist with the Mexican rock band Allison, describes the group’s performances.

Yuma-area residents have a chance to see for themselves on Thursday when Allison plays in Somerton in a concert that will benefit Precious Treasures Mission, a non-profit organization that provides after-school and other youth enrichment programs.

The performance is slated for 6 p.m. at Somerton’s Perricone Park, located at 153 N. Cesar Chavez Ave.

The band, a nominee for a Latin Grammy and MTV award, will play songs from its most recent album, “Todo Está Encendido.”

“It is potent rock, charged and energetic,” said Canales. “Our performances are like an aerobics session with guitar. We are going to move the people.”

The band — which includes Alfi Percastegui on bass, Abraham Jarquín on guitar and Diego Stommel on drums — is stopping in Somerton as part of a seven concert tour that begins in San Francisco and finishes in El Paso.

“This will be the first time we have been in Arizona,” Canales said. “We played in December in the Roxy theater in Los Angeles, and that went very well for us. People are going to see that we give everything on every stage we play.”

A portion of proceeds will go to Precious Treasures.
