Ice cream parlor, auction house debut

Info on how to retrieve items from shuttered Family Dry Cleaners

-

Another week with a mixed bag of good news and bad news. I’ll start with the good news. La Michoacana Plus Ice Cream Parlor, 419 W. 8th St., had a soft opening on Saturday at the site of the old Sant Drug Store, which closed last summer.

The Mexican-style parlor has more than 100 flavors of ice cream and ice pops and other traditional snacks and beverages.

The building is easy to spot; it has been transformed inside and out with a rainbow of bright colors, including hot pink, lime green and lemon yellow. Colorful murals on the inside, some of local scenes, also serve as selfie stations to “make your day extra special.”

The history of La Michoacana began in Mexico three generations ago. According to its website, the company has managed to preserve the original flavor of the authentic Mexican ice cream while renewing and adapting with more diverse products, such as snacks and other specialties.

“We are happy and excited to be part of this great community!” the parlor posted on Facebook.
