75 years: Mitchell’s Merchant Patrol marks milestone
Mitchell’s Merchant Patrol, 3833 E. 24th Place, is celebrating a major milestone: 75 years of serving Yuma County.
Headquartered in Yuma, Mitchell’s is a full-service security organization specializing in providing security services “to all who call upon us for security services in the Desert Southwest.”
Red Mitchell, a Yuma resident, founded the company in 1943. His son, Arnold “Jim” took over the business in 1988. Mitchell’s hired Gene Stevens in 1973 to help grow the business. Gene and Bette Stevens purchased the company in 1991.
When Gene died in 2004, Bette continued to run the business, and now her son, Don Schenck, has taken over and continues to grow the business, proudly serving the community, from San Luis to Wellton.
To explain how Mitchell’s has survived for so long, the company says it provides peace of mind to clients by concentrating on the three S’s: safety, security and service.

Mitchell’s Merchant Patrol is divided up in two operational divisions: Patrol Operations and Field Operations. The Patrol Operations division is comprised of a specially trained squad of security patrol officers. They remain on-site at assigned areas and complete detailed and thorough reports documenting any and all activity that occurs.
Patrol vehicles are equipped with one of today’s leading real-time GPS tracking systems to better patrol and protect investments. Mitchell’s works with property management companies, developers, community associations, private home owners and others.
The Field Operations division offers a wide range of security service options including foot patrol, bicycle patrol, golf cart patrol and other types of patrol custom tailored to any site, industry or scope of work, whether permanent or onetime need.
