Free mental health first-aid training to be held at AWC
Arizona Western College’s health and wellness department will host mental health first-aid certification training on Thursday, Feb. 21.
The training is free and open to the public and will be held in building 3C, Conference Room 2105 at the college’s main campus in Yuma.
Similar to regular first aid, this training will help people respond to mental health crises in those around them.
Topics covered in the training include depression and mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, psychosis and substance use disorders.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lunch will be provided.
Kofa to host open house
Kofa High School will host an open house event to show off its new and renovated facilities Tuesday, Feb. 19, from 4:30-6 p.m.
The result of a bond measure passed in 2015, the project was completed in January and includes a new auxiliary gym, weight room, science and research building, and a new culinary arts and hospitality lab, among other things.
The open house will include tours from campus administration and those who contributed to the project, including the DLR Group and McCarthy Construction.
STEDY makes 2 hires
The Southwest Technical Education District of Yuma’s governing board approved the recommended hiring of two administrators at Monday’s board meeting.
Brenda Warnock was hired as the district’s director of program management, and Rosa Garibay was hired as an administrative assistant.
