The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the man who was shot and killed by San Luis police officers over the weekend. He has been identified as 35-year-old San Luis resident Jason Demarcus Larkin.

The shooting occurred at about 12:55 p.m. Saturday at County 19th Street and Avenue I, with deputies responding to the location after a report of a man armed with a knife blocking traffic.

San Luis police officers, who were advised of the incident, also responded to assist deputies and arrived on scene first.

According to the sheriff’s office, during the confrontation, Larkin was given several commands to drop the knives he was carrying, but failed to comply.

Officers then used a stun gun on Larkin, but he was unfazed and continued to advance toward them with a knife in each hand, YCSO said.

Larkin was ultimately shot and later pronounced dead at Yuma Regional Medical Center.

The YCSO Criminal Investigations Bureau responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.
