Yuma Sector Border Patrol agents apprehended more than 900 Central American migrants on Saturday and Sunday after crossing into the country illegally and self-surrendering.

Agent Jose Garibay of the Yuma Sector Public Affairs Office said a majority of the migrants were family units and unaccompanied children.

Garibay added that the migrants crossed in several groups that ranged in size, with two large groups of 60 or more individuals crossing within a short period of time of each other at County 9th Street and the Levee Road, near the Morelos Dam.

“That was 120 individuals or more all crossing at the same spot within a short period of time,” Garibay said.

Other groups crossed all along the Colorado River and near the City of San Luis.

All of the migrants were taken into custody and transported to the Yuma Sector’s Central Processing Center.

Garibay added that due to the current immigration laws, the family units will likely be released into the country within the next few days or weeks.
