2 killed in separate shootings in San Luis R.C.

- FROM STAFF REPORTS

SAN LUIS RIO COLORADO, Son. — Two people were slain and one wounded in separate shooting incidents in this border city, according to police.

No suspects have been arrested in either case, both of which remained under investigation Monday.

In the first incident, Juan Jose Flores, 23, was fatally shot at 5 a.m. in his residence at Callejon Sonora and Calle 23, on the city’s southeast corner, according to police.

The shooting is believed to have stemmed from an argument the victim had with two or more unidentified people who had come to his home hours before.

Flores died of a gunshot wound to the head, police said, and the suspects fled the home.

In the second incident, one man was fatally shot and one other man wounded by gunfire at 10 p.m. in a shooting at a home at residence on Merida B Avenue between 15 and 16th streets, police said.

The victims in that incident have not been identified. The wounded man was rushed to a hospital in San Luis Rio Colorado.

The shootings come amid what police have said is a spike in the homicide rate in the city across from Yuma County since September.
