Woman dies in single-vehicle rollover
The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a 21-year-old Wellton woman died in the single-vehicle rollover crash that happened Friday afternoon in the vicinity of the Cibola Access Road on Martinez Lake Road.
Two other occupants in the vehicle, a 16-yearold girl and a 12-year-old boy, were also injured and transported to Yuma Regional Medical Center by Rural/Metro ambulance.
YCSO spokesperson Alfonso Zavala said the crash happened at approximately 1:35 p.m. and that the initial investigation revealed that a red 2002 Ford Explorer SUV was traveling westbound on Martinez Lake Road when the vehicle swerved off of the roadway onto the right shoulder.
The driver attempted to steer back onto the roadway, but overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle ran off of the right side of the roadway a second time, overturned and rolled.
“All three occupants of the vehicle were ejected,” Zavala said. “The cause of the accident is still under investigation.”
Angelica Garcia-Lopez, 21, succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deed at the scene.
The 16-year-old female driver and a 12-year-old boy passenger were transported from the scene by ambulance to YRMC with serious injuries.
The case remains under investigation . Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this collision, YCSO said.
