FarWest Storm Drain Improvement Project

What’s New... Yuma County is installing a new storm drain system to alleviate flooding at several locations in the Foothills. The contractor currently allocated three underground crews and one grading crew in order to work at multiple locations:

• Farwest Avenue, South of 34th St.: 7/22/19 thru 7/26/19: Contractor to complete installation of valley gutters across roadway.

• Cassidy Avenue, South of 37th St.: 7/22/19 thru 7/26/19: Contractor to complete last catch basins on Cassidy &37th Pl. Once complete contractor to continue grading roadway for new pavement. Detour will be set thru 37th Street.

• Mona Avenue, North of 37th St.: 7/22/19 thru 7/26/19: Contractor to complete manhole and remaining catch basin along Mona Avenue. Grading roadway for new pavement will commence right after. PAVEMENT REPLACEMENT WILL INCLUDE FULL ROADWAY WIDTH. Detour will be set thru 37th St.

• Sandra Avenue, South of 37th St.: 722/19 thru 8/02/19: Contractor to continue installation of storm drain. Work expected to be completed by 8/02. Once storm drain is completed contractor with grading roadway for pavement. Detour will be set thru 37th Street.

• 38th St & Cassidy Avenue: 7/22/19 thru 7/26/19: Contractor will install new and catch basin at southeast corner of intersection. Road will be closed to thru traffic, detour will be set thru 37th St.

Road Closures: 38th Street will be closed at Cassidy Avenue. Motorists can expect delays as several crews are conducting work, drivers are urged to pay close attention to work zone signs. Traffic control will be in place to detour traffic around road closures. Detour route will be set thru 37th Street and Hunter Avenue.

8th Street Road Improvement Project, Avenue D to Avenue C

What’s New... As part of the reconstruction of 8th Street, Yuma County will be conducting the following work:

• Full reconstruction of an urban road section (approx.4,600 lineal feet) consisting of five lanes, two lanes in each direction and a central turning lane; mill and overlay intersection of Avenue C & 8th Street.; installation of new storm drain pipe, manholes, and catch basins; installation of new pavement section, curb & gutter, sidewalk, exposed aggregate concrete, driveways, sidewalk ramps, pavement markings and signage; construction of two stormwater detention basins, including pump station and storm sewer force mains, and outlet structures; installation of new street lighting and miscellaneous items.

Schedule: Contractor mobilized May 20,2019. Work Expected to be completed by January 2019.

7/22/19 thru 7/26/19: For the first phase of work contractor is expected to conduct work on North side of roadway, including roadway excavation and new storm drain system. Storm drain installation commenced on 7/16 and is expected to continue until October 2019.

Road Closures: Vehicular traffic will remain on paved roadway, no road closures are expected during the initial phases of work.

Utility Work on County R/W.

• Co. 11th St, Between Avenue D & Somerton Avenue: 7/22/19 thru 7/23/19: APS will be closing Co. 11th St to install new service vaults and run conduits to new facility. As part of the work a portion of the roadway in this area will be removed and replaced. Detour will be thru Somerton Avenue & Co. 10th St and Avenue D thru Co. 14th St. Paving expected to be completed by 7/23/19.
