Cardinals place 6 on unable to perform list before camp

TEMPE — The Arizona Cardinals have placed six players on the Physically Unable to Perform list before the start of training camp next week.

The Cardinals announced Saturday linebackers Dante Booker (back) and Brooks Reed (hip), tight end Charles Clay (knee), offensive lineman Max Garcia (knee), defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche (knee) and cornerback Brandon Williams (back) will start training camp inactive.

PUP players can rejoin the team at any point during training camp, but can’t participate in any on-field activities until they’re off the list.

Arizona also signed defensive lineman Sterling Bailey and released offensive lineman Will Holden and defensive lineman Immanuel Turner.

Bailey originally joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent with Indianapolis in 2016 and spent time on practice squads with the Colts, Seahawks and Vikings.

Beaty’s HR helps Dodgers recover to beat Marlins

LOS ANGELES — Matt Beaty broke an eighth-inning tie with a three-run homer and the Los Angeles Dodgers recovered to beat the Miami Marlins 10-6 on Saturday night after blowing a six-run lead.

Beaty’s drive to right-center on a changeup by Elieser Hernandez (1-4) bailed out the Dodgers’ bullpen and defense. Los Angeles led 6-0 through six innings after Clayton Kershaw had a seasonhigh 10 strikeouts and allowed only two hits. Joc Pederson and Justin Turner provided the early lift on offense with home runs before the Marlins rallied to tie.

Miami took advantage of a Los Angeles bullpen that has struggled in middle relief and benefited from a pair of errors in a five-run eighth. The Dodgers, who had three errors in the game, have committed 20 in July, which is the most in the majors.

Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager dropped a foul ball by Curtis Granderson, which would have been the first out in the eighth. Instead, Granderson doubled to left.

Jorge Alfaro nearly had a grand slam but Alex Verdugo made a great catch at the base of the wall in right to keep it a sacrifice fly. Brian Anderson’s two-run double brought the Marlins within 6-4 before they tied it on a throwing error by second baseman Enrique Hernandez, which allowed Anderson to score.

Starlin Castro started the Marlins’ comeback in the seventh with a solo shot to left-center off JT Chargois.

Kershaw retired the first 10 Marlins he faced.

Mets end Giants’ 7-game winning streak

SAN FRANCISCO — Pete Alonso came off the bench and hit his 33rd home run, setting the Mets rookie record for RBIs as New York beat San Francisco 11-4 Saturday to end the Giants’ sevengame winning streak.

Dominic Smith, Jeff McNeil and Todd Frazier all went deep as the Mets powered up with four home runs, one day after losing 1-0 in 10 innings. Walker Lockett (1-1) pitched five mostly sharp innings to earn his first major league victory.

Pablo Sandoval singled four times for the Giants. San Francisco (49-50) had won 14 of 16 and was attempting to get above .500 for the first time this season.
