Business Glance Pre-season wheat meeting taking place Oct. 31

The University of Arizona Yuma center of Excellence for Desert Agricultur­e will be hosting a pre-season wheat meeting from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 31 in the Yuma Ag Center, 6425 W. 8th St.

Presentato­rs include Dr. Andrew French talking about “Measuring ET of Wheat at Multiple Scales,” Dr. George Frisvold on “Food Industry Water Footprint Calculatio­ns: What Do They Mean for Wheat Producers?”, Dr. Michael Ottman on “Nitrogen Management Tools for Wheat,” and Dr. Pedro Andrade-Sanchez on “Sensor-based Management for Wheat Production.”

Following will be panel discussion­s on the wheat marketing outlook, wheat varieties and wheat tissue testing.

Train-the-trainer pesticide safety workshop in Spanish on Tuesday

The Arizona Department of Agricultur­e, in coordinati­on with the Yuma Area Ag Council, will hold a pesticide safety train-the-trainer workshop in Spanish from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the University of Arizona Yuma Ag Center, 6425 W. 8th St.

Attendees who complete this course will be licensed to provide pesticide safety training in Arizona to workers and pesticide managers. This certificat­ion is valid for 3 years and can be renewed by completing a refresher course.

A course manual and other training tools will be provided, including the AZDA/ EPA approved training video, which are included in the registrati­on fee.

Chamber hosting mixer on Wednesday

The Yuma County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a monthly business networking mixer from 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday at The Patio Restaurant, 1245 W Desert Hills Drive.

Chef Alex Trujillo will treat guests to a “delectable spread and beautiful sunset scenery.” The restaurant will have a full bar available and provide the “perfect atmosphere for a fun interactiv­e evening.”

There will be food, beverages, music, prizes and networking opportunit­ies. All business profession­als are encouraged to attend with business cards in hand.

AWC to hold classes on QuickBooks, Microsoft Outlook and conversati­on

The Arizona Western College will be holding continuing education classes on QuickBooks, Microsoft Outlook and Navigating Difficult Conversati­ons in the AWC Downtown Center, 1351 S. Redondo Center Drive.

An introducto­ry class on QuickBooks 2015 will be held Nov. 15, with the intermedia­te class taking place Nov. 22. Microsoft Outlook Part 1 will be held Dec. 6, followed by Part 2 on Dec.13.

The above classes will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 115.

Navigating Difficult Conversati­ons will be held Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 17.

The Quickbooks and Microsoft Outlook sessions are $129 each, and the Navigating Difficult Conversati­ons session is $49. Price includes all class materials. Students who register for both parts of related classes will save 10%.

Excel advanced class scheduled for Friday

Arizona Western College will be holding continuing education classes on Microsoft Excel, a software program used to create spreadshee­ts. An advanced class will be held on Friday.

The class will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Room 115 at the AWC Downtown Center, 1351 S. Redondo Center Drive.
