Citizens will be able to complete reports of certain crimes online for the Yuma Police Department with the help of a new software program.

During a Tuesday work session, Deputy Chief Lisa Culp and Lt. Mike Wilcher will brief the Yuma City Council on the Citizens Online Reporting software that will allow citizens to complete nonviolent and no-suspect crime reports online.

The session will also include Linda Morgan, executive director of Visit Yuma, the community’s visitors bureau, who will present the association’s annual report, including current activities and strategic plan for the future.

However, the council will first meet for a citizens forum at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday to review the 2020 calendar of scheduled citizens forums, work sessions and council meetings. This will be followed by the work session at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

After the presentations, the council will then review the agenda for Wednesday’s regular meeting, which starts at 5:30 p.m. The consent agenda includes an intergovernmental agreement between YPD and Arizona Western College for the loan of two police vehicles in support of the regional training academy and other local trainings.

The council is also expected to adopt by resolution the results of the Nov. 5 general election, making them official.

One ordinance is up for adoption. It would rezone 19.31 acres from agriculture to light industrial for properties located at the southeast corner of Avenue 3E and the 38th Street alignment.

Three ordinances will be introduced, including one that would repeal and replace the portion of the city code that regulates trees.

The ordinance clarifies the code and adds requirements for removal and replacement of municipal trees.

The other two ordinances would rezone property, including .32 acres located at 1146 and 1154 S. 3rd Ave. from general commercial to medium density residential and 456 acres located at the northeast corner, southeast corner, and southwest corner of Avenue 7E and 44th Street from agriculture to low density residential, medium density single-family residential and general commercial.

All meetings take place in the City Hall Council Chambers, 1 City Plaza. To view the complete agenda and staff reports, go to www.yumaaz.gov.
