Two San Luis R.C. police officers slain at restaurant
SAN LUIS RIO COLORADO, Son. – Two municipal police officers were fatally shot Wednesday night at a restaurant on the city’s south side.
The Municipal Police Department identified the officers slain in the restaurant at Monterrey street and Nuevo Leon B Avenue as Raul Ramos and Ricardo Castro.
Police said the officers were gunned down by heavily armed subjects, but provided few other details in the slayings.
The killings brought to four the number of city po
lice officers killed in San Luis Rio Colorado in 2019, in what is already shaping up to be a record-setting year for homicides in the sprawling border city next to Yuma County. Most of the killing is attributed by authorities to fighting among rival drug trafficking groups and street gangs.
Social media in San Luis Rio Colorado were reporting the two officers were dining in the restaurant, with their patrol vehicle parked outside, when they were attacked.
In a bulletin, police said the officers were killed while in the line of duty.
The slayings came midway in an atypical week in which no homicides had been reported in the city, although authorities reported a prisoner was fatally stabbed Wednesday by another inmate in the state prison in San Luis Rio Colorado.
In August, municipal police officer Alex Ivan Gamez was fatally shot while traveling in his vehicle on the city’s west side.
The month before, Daniel Armenta, who headed up the city police department’s anti-auto theft unit was killed in a drive-by shooting as he was arriving home.
Municipal police made an appeal for information leading to the arrests of two officers slain Wednesday night.
