Kofa boy’s soccer upsets No. 8 Desert Vista

The 19th ranked Kofa Kings needed just one goal to prevail in Friday night’s upset over the 8th ranked Desert Vista Thunder.

George Gama laced a goal in the first half, which helped the Kings (3-2 AIA) win their second straight AIA game. The Kings have a big showdown on Jan. 21 against the Cibola Raiders.

Despite outshootin­g the Minotaurs 12-2, the Shamrocks (4-1-2 AIA) were unable to find the back of the net.

Paulina Hernandez pitched a shutout in goal.

Prep boys basketball YC 61, Bourgade Catholic 50

The Shamrocks (4-6 AIA) are beginning to find their stride after winning their third game in four attempts.

Carlos Delgado had one of his best outings of the year, dropping 24 points on 8-of-9 shooting. He also knocked down all three from outside. Rakai Malone finished with 10 points and four assists for YC.

Antelope 84, Tempe Prep 67

The Rams

(3-5

AIA) snapped a four-game losing streak behind the hot shooting of William Whitley. He dropped 23 points in the win. Dylan Thomas added a season-high 16 points.

Estrella Foothills 62, Yuma High 31

Alex Mosqueda led the Criminals (3-8 AIA) with 12 points. Yuma High will take on Cibola on Jan. 22.

Prep girls basketball San Pasqual 59, PDSD 36

The Warriors continue their hot start with a 23-point win over the Roadrunner­s.

Mary Amador had a terrific night, dropping 27 points, seven rebounds and three steals on Friday. Kristina Mendez added 11 points, seven rebounds, three steals and an astounding eight blocks.

Malaya Emerson contribute­d with six points and 10 rebounds.
