San Luis FFA teams bring home wins from district competition
All three of San Luis High School’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) teams left the Yuma District FFA Spring Career Development Event (CDE) with awards.
The school’s agronomy team took first place with the help of team members Daniel Juarez, Alejandra Pasillas, Marco Sanchez, and Andres Villagran Jr. In individual placements, Juarez earned a No. 1 placement and Villagran earned a No. 2 placement.
Coming in second was the SLHS nursery landscape team, featuring team members Ana Luisa De La Rocha, Aylin G. Robledo Zavala, and Abel Osuna Juarez. An additional SLHS nursery landscape team – comprised of Hector Leon Mosqueda, Fernando Sanchez, and Edgar Zambrano Jr. – took third.
“I am exceptionally proud (of) all of our San Luis FFA CDE teams,” said FFA advisor Cecil Pratt. “Our agronomy team decided early to compete in a very difficult competition. I believe there is a direct correlation between time invested, level of commitment and success. The hardest working students in our program took top team honors with an individual first and second place. Effort-to-reward ratio is a great learning experience for CTE, FFA and for life.”
FFA is an intracurricular organization for students who are interested in agriculture and leadership. YUHSD students who are FFA members are enrolled in agriculture classes through the district’s career and technical education (CTE) program. These courses are offered at San Luis, Cibola, Gila Ridge and Yuma High Schools.
