OT goal barrage leads Kofa boys over Maryvale

The Kofa boys soccer team exploded for four goals in overtime to defeat Maryvale 6-2 on Friday night at home.

The No. 10-ranked Kings (4-2-1 AIA) scored the game’s first two goals, and then the No. 18 Panthers (34-1) scored two of their own to make it 2-2 at halftime. After neither team scored in the second half, Leo Ramirez scored in the first overtime period to give the Kings a 3-2 lead. They then scored three more times in the second overtime period.

Hector Quiroz had a hat trick and two assists, while Ramirez had two goals and one assist. George Gama scored the team’s other goal, Angel Saldana had two assists and Jose Carrasco had one assist.

PREP GIRLS SOCCER Kofa 1, Maryvale 0

Cassandra Sandoval scored the game’s only goal off an assist from Roselin Ramirez. Priscilla Osegueda posted the shutout for the Kings (3-3-1 AIA).

Cibola 2, Mountain Pointe 2

Itzel Meza had both goals for the Raiders (3-5-2 AIA), who snapped a four-game losing streak with the draw.

PREP BOYS BASKETBALL Kofa 41, Yuma High 32

Stone Braveheart had 25 points and 17 rebounds for the Kings (4-7 AIA), who beat their rivals for the second time this regular season and third time overall.

Valley Christian 65, YC 37

For a half, this game was far closer than the final score indicated. YC (5-7 AIA, 3-2 region) led the majority of the first half and trailed by just one at the break, but No. 2-ranked Valley Christian (13-1, 5-1) outscored the Shamrocks 38-11 over the final two quarters.

Rakai Malone was YC’s leading scorer with 13 points.

PREP GIRLS HOOPS Cibola 48, Maryvale 34

Mia Soria (13 points, 4 rebounds), Myna Johnson (10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals) and Rori Hoffmeyer (10 points, 11 rebounds) led the way for the No. 8-ranked Raiders (11-1 AIA).
