Now, let’s see what shenanigans happened around town……

This lady, let’s call her Sally, is known to be a career shoplifter. Due to her previous five-finger discounts, she has been trespassed from this local department store. Well, Sally was spotted inside the store and their Loss Prevention was all over it. Sally was seen going into a dressing room with an item and like a trick from Houdini’s book, “poof” the item was gone. Sally made her way to the exit, passing all points of sale, and was stopped by Loss Prevention. When confronted, Sally became defensive. Like a 5-year-old throwing a fit, Sally turned around, pulled an item from inside her pants, threw it on the floor and took off running. Loss Prevention was in hot pursuit and saw Sally get into a waiting vehicle. Loss Prevention was on top of their game and got the license plate number from the vehicle. After viewing the video of the event, the officer had a good 8X10 glossy photo of Sally pulling out the goods from its hiding place. Officers did try to make contact with Sally, but their knocks went unanswered. A few days later, Sally did come to the police department and turned herself in. Due to Sally’s track record, her theft of under $20 became a felony and she was fitted for her orange jammies and flip-flops.

This lady, let’s call her Martha, must have been feeling really lucky this day. She wasn’t, but she must have felt it with what she tried to do. Martha watched a guy, let’s call him Alex, withdraw some money from an ATM. Alex walked away with money and card in hand and got into his car. As Alex was getting settled into his vehicle, Martha grabbed the money and card from Alex and took off running. Now let me set this scene for you, Martha is about 5’00” and a buck twenty five. Alex is over 6’00” and fit. For every five strides Martha took, Alex took one. As you can guess, Alex caught up with Martha pretty quickly and held her until police arrived. Martha was also found to have illegal drugs and forged checks in her possession. Oh Martha, Martha, Martha…… the force was not with you that day. She did get her jammies and flip-flops at the end of the day.

Officers were attempting to take this guy into custody, let’s call him Frank. Frank had two knives on his person in plain view and the officers were trying to talk him into putting them down. After approximately 20 minutes of trying to reason with Frank and take him in quietly, an electronic control device was used. Well, that didn’t work, so officers went hands-on. The fight was on and Frank punched an officer in the face. A sergeant jumped into the mix around the time the electronic control device was deployed a second time. It did kind of miss its intended mark, but it did work as advertised. Although one of our sergeants was getting juiced, he did manage to hold onto Frank long enough for the other officers to take him into custody.
